Wilbur Henry Hage, 86, of Lakefield, passed away on Saturday, April 13, 2019, at Colonial Manor Nursing Home, in Lakefield, Minnesota. Funeral services will be held at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Lakefield on Tuesday, April 16, 2019, beginning at 2:00 p.m. with Reverend John Schuetz officiating. Burial will take place at Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery in Lakefield.

A visitation will take place on Tuesday from 1-2 p.m. at the church.

Wilbur Henry Hage, son of Albert and Helen (Malchow) Hage was born on Monday, December 12, 1932 in Heron Lake Township. He was baptized and confirmed at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Lakefield. Wilbur attended the Immanuel Lutheran school through the 8th grade. On February 3, 1953, Wilbur entered the United States Army, serving one year in Korea. He was discharged from the Army in February 1955 at Fort Carson, Colorado. Wilbur was united in marriage to Betty (Rossow) on May 14, 1955, at St. Peter Lutheran Church. The couple resided in Lansing, Minnesota, for one year before moving to Lakefield, where they made their home together. They were blessed with two children. Wilbur worked construction and operated the Jackson County Landfill for twenty years before retiring.  As Wilbur’s health started to decline, he moved to the Colonial Manor Nursing Home in Lakefield, where he passed away on Saturday, April 13, 2019, at the age of 86 years, 4 months and 1 day.

Wilbur was a life-long member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Lakefield, the Lakefield VFW, and the Lakefield American Legion. Wilbur enjoyed spending time outdoors.  He and Betty spent many hours out on the lakes fishing. He was also an avid deer hunter. He had a knack for woodworking and construction. Wilbur had built four houses for his family with each house getting a little bit bigger. After retiring he started doing more of the decorative woodworking. Wilbur and Betty made a great team. He would cut the pieces out and Betty would paint them. Always making sure that there was one for each daughter and one for them to keep. Wilbur was known for his delicious pies, which he made from scratch.  He enjoyed spending time with his family, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Wilbur is survived by his wife of 63 years Betty; two daughters: Susan (Denny) Dagel of Lakefield, Janet (Denny) Laabs of Lakefield; grandchildren Sarah (Aaron) Mattila, Jonah (Nicole) Dagel, Brandon (Sarah) Laabs, Adam (Samantha) Laabs; great-grandchildren; Elijah and Lydia Mattila, Caleb and Colton Laabs, Grady and Claire Dagel; and sister Lois (Gary) Schammel of Florida.

Wilbur is preceded in death by his parents, brothers: Lorvin, Wilmer, Donald, and Leo, and his sisters: Doris and Ruby.
