Jackson County Central graduate and University of Sioux Falls freshman Sadie Voss has been named the freshman of the year in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference.
Voss was also named to the second-team all-conference team.
“We knew from the beginning that Sadie would play a big role for us,” USF head coach Dan Mathews said in a release from the school last week. “The way she handles her role as a freshman leader is truly a testament to her mindset and to the support she receives from her family. Overall, she’s a great player and an even better teammate and that’s what truly sets her apart as she plays the game.”
Voss leads the Cougars with 295 digs this season and ranks sixth with 30 blocks.
Voss is second on the team with 270 kills and had a career-high 19 against Chadron State. Her 25 ace serves are tied for second on the team.
The Cougars are 18-9 on the season and received votes in the latest national poll. They went 14-6 in the NSIC, winning their final six conference matches. Included in that run were five-set victories over fifth-ranked Southwest Minnesota State University and second-ranked Concordia-St. Paul.
Voss led USF with 17 digs and was second with 14 digs in the win over SMSU. In the win over CSP, Voss had a team-high 11 digs and was second with 13 kills.
The Cougars open the NSIC tournament Friday against the University of Minnesota Duluth.
