Two candidates for the open local congressional seat were scheduled to be in Jackson County this week for campaign events.

Jackson County native Matt Benda, an attorney from Albert Lea, was scheduled for meet-and-greets Wednesday in Jackson, while Brad Finstad of New Ulm, former state director of the U.S. Department of Agriculture-Rural Development in Minnesota, is scheduled for a Jackson campaign stop this Friday.

Benda was scheduled to be at Kat’s Hog Heaven in Jackson from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. Wednesday and at Bridget’s Bucksnort’s Brew Ha-Ha and Grill in Jackson from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. that same day. Finstad is scheduled to be at the Jackson Pizza Ranch this Friday from 6 to 7:30 p.m.

Both are campaigning for the First Congressional District seat vacated in February upon the death of former U.S. Rep. Jim Hagedorn. A special primary election will take place on May 24.
