Boyum’s sixth-place finish highlights first day of stateFree Access

The Jackson County Central track and field team opened the Class A state meet Thursday at St. Michael-Albertville High School.

Andrew Boyum shattered his own school record in the 3,200-meter run, finishing sixth in  nine minutes, 44.98 seconds to earn a medal.

The girls’ 4×200-meter relay team of Daysia Tomlin, Kendra Haar, Hannah Carson and Elsa Landherr finished third in its heat to advance to Friday’s finals. The foursome finished in one minute, 48.19 seconds, which is second in school history.

Quinn Landherr cleared a personal-record 12 feet, 6 inches to finish 10th in pole vault.

Peyton Hanson had to medically forfeit out of the 100- and 300-meter hurdle prelims after suffering an injury Tuesday. She will be reevaluated Friday to see if she can compete in pole vault.

Also Friday, Caleb Vancura will compete in discus; Boyum will compete in the 1,600-meter run; and Maci Farmer and Elsa Landherr will compete in triple jump.
