Ardith Frederickson, 97Free Access


A Celebration of Life Service for Ardith Frederickson, age 97 of Windom, formerly of Heron Lake, will be at 3 p.m. on Friday, September 28, 2018, at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Lakefield with Pastor Andrew Schenstad officiating. Burial will follow in Delafield Township Cemetery in rural Windom.

Visitation will be on Thursday, September 27, 2018, from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Lakefield, and also for one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday.

Ardith Frederickson passed away Saturday, September 22, 2018, at the Good Samaritan Society – Sogge Memorial in Windom.

Ardith Joyce Frederickson was born on January 14, 1921 in Delafield Township, Jackson County, Minnesota to the late Ernest Arthur and Ella Christina (Egge) Brodin. She was baptized at an early age and later confirmed on May 5, 1935 at the Delafield Lutheran Church. Ardith received her education in District 30 rural school and graduated on July 11, 1933. She then attended Windom High School; graduating in the Class of 1937. Ardith furthered her education at St. Olaf for one year before attending cosmetology school in 1939. After graduation, she returned to Windom to work in the Home Beauty Shop until 1947.

On November 27, 1947, Ardith was united in marriage to Herbert Owen Frederickson at the Delafield Lutheran Church. After marriage, they farmed and lived on the Ernest Brodin Farm. Ardith was an active farming partner and homemaker up to and following Herbert’s death. She moved to Windom in 2012 and lived at Remick Ridge and Mikkelsen Manor. Nine months ago, she became a resident of the Good Samaritan Society-Sogge Memorial in Windom where she passed away on Saturday, September 22, 2018, her late husband’s birthday, at the age of 97 years.

Ardith was a lifelong member of the Delafield Lutheran Church where she was the organist and choir director for 46 years along with teaching Sunday school and served as the Sunday School Superintendent until its closing in November of 1998. She then became a member of the Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Lakefield.  Through the years, she was active in WELCA in the Delafield and Bethlehem Congregations as well as holding various Shetek Conference positions. Ardith was also a member of the Heron Lake School District Parent Teacher Organization where she held several district offices in the same organization. A member of the American Legion Auxiliary-Herbert K. Kellam Post 224 in Heron Lake, the Delafield Cemetery Association where she held various offices, active member of the Stavanger Lodge, Sons of Norway for 28 years and taught piano lessons.

Ardith will be remembered for her love of cooking, music, family, entertaining, hospitality and strong faith. She had extensive family correspondence via cards for all occasions, writing poems and private letters to grandchildren. Ardith also enjoyed counted cross stitching along with knitting.

Ardith is survived by her two sons, Paul (Janet Marie) Frederickson of Eagan; Karl (Bonnie) Frederickson of Heron Lake; four grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren, Krista (Andrew) Kopperud of Currie and their children, Annika, Elysa and Britta; Marie (Dustin) Morache of Cottage Grove and their children, Gideon and Jeremiah; Beth (Mark) Bents of Bigelow and their children, Tyler, Rylan and Alayna of Bigelow; Paul (Kayo) Frederickson, Jr. of Miami, FL and their daughter, Hanna; one sister, Ruth Mickelson of Windom; and numerous cousins,  nieces and nephews.

Ardith is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Herbert Frederickson and one infant son, John Philip Frederickson.
