The simple act of flipping a switch and having light is something we often don't even think about. How did pioneers light their houses? With candles they made themselves! How did they do it? Classic Memories Celebration and Vehicle Show - the public is invited to enjoy live music, games and a picnic, along with a car show, in the parking lot at Doman-Rose/Rosewood Villas on Tuesday, Aug. 13, from 5:30-7:30 pm. At 6 pm, Sean Benz from Windom will be performing his old-time country and rock and roll show. Attendees are invited to bring food items for the Lakefield food shelf and vote for their favorite vehicle in the show by placing the items in front of it. At 7 pm, bingo will start, featuring a number of prizes.

New Teacher Welcome Party August, 14 / 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM Community
Four local businesses will team up to host a welcome party in honor of the new teachers of the JCC School District. The party, hosted by United Prairie Bank, Sunshine Foods, Livewire Printing Co., and Pizza Ranch, will be held at United Prairie Bank in Jackson. Representatives of Jackson businesses, JCC staff, school board members and city and county officials are invited to attend. Refreshments and hors d'oeuvres will be served.

31st Annual Corn Cob Open August, 15 / 12:00 AM Community
The 31st Annual Minnesota State Corn Cob Open is a 9-hole golf tournament for the duffer and the experienced golfer. The tournament is open to Minnesota and National Corn Grower Members and Spouses and Minnesota and National Associate Corn Grower Members and Spouses. It will be a fun tournament with trophies and awards. The tournament is held at three courses: Jackson Golf Club in Jackson, Emerald Valley Golf Club in Lakefield, and Loon Lake Golf Club, south of Jackson.

Riverside and Pleasantview Back to School from 4 to 5:30pm. Students and parents are invited to come at any time within that range to visit their classrooms, bring supplies and take care of any paperwork. JCC Middle School *6th grade only from 6-6:30pm in the auditorium. ALL Middle Schoolers from 6:30-7:30pm. The school's classrooms will be open for all students and parents to stop in, meet teachers and become familiar with their expectations. 7th and 8th graders are asked not to come before 6:30, unless they are attending the orientation with a brother or sister in 6th grade.
