WR: Huskies win big twice
By Dan Condon (January 06, 2010)
There was no doubt which team was the best in a triangular Tuesday night in Redwood Falls.

The Jackson County Central wrestling team dominated both Redwood Valley and Luverne to improve to 4-0 in duals this season and 3-0 in the Southwest Conference.

JCC 57, RV 15

The Huskies recorded five pins and received three forfeits in a convincing 57-15 win over the Cardinals.

Jordan Biehn opened the dual with an 11-3 major decision at 103 pounds and Kyle Edlin received a forfeit, putting the Huskies up 10-0 early.

Paden Moore followed with a pin in 2:10 to give JCC a 16-0 lead.

After a pin by the Cardinals, Bronson Steuber received a forfeit, the first of four straight wins by the Huskies.

Darick Vancura followed with a pin in 3:41, Spencer Johnson won an 18-3 technical fall and Alex Cleberg got a pin in 3:15 to put the Huskies up 39-6.

The Cards got another win before Tucker Freeman and Patrick Hanson recorded back-to-back pins for the Huskies.
Brandon Pygman received a forfeit at 215 pounds after both teams forfeited at 189.

The Cardinals won at heavyweight but the Huskies had an easy 57-15 win.

JCC 54, Luverne 6

Things were even easier against Luverne as the Huskies took a 54-0 lead and won 54-6.

Biehn and Edlin recorded falls to start the match, with Biehn needing just 29 seconds for his pin and Edlin taking just 48 seconds.

A pin by Dylan Riggle at 125 pounds followed a double-forfeit, giving JCC an 18-0 lead.

Steuber, Johnson, Taylor Menke, Cleberg and Jessie Regalado all picked up pins, giving the Huskies eight pins in the match.

Riggle, Johnson, Menke, Cleberg and Regalado all got their pin in the first period, with Steuber needing just 14 seconds of the second period to get his fall.

The run of pins gave the Huskies a 48-0 lead.

Both teams forfeited at 160 pounds and Tanner Menke received a forfeit at 171 pounds, giving JCC a 54-0 lead.

After a double forfeit at 215, Luverne got its only win of the night at heavyweight to avoid the shutout.

Baker pleased

“We had some young guys have some pretty good performances,” head coach Randy Baker said. “Some of the JV guys looked a lot better than I thought.”

Those junior varsity wrestlers got some experience against varsity opponents due to the considerable talent advantage the Huskies had Tuesday night.

But as easy as Tuesday night may have been for the Huskies, Baker still thinks the team needs to improve.

“We’ve got to keep getting better,” he said. “We’ve got to get a little more solid at a couple of weights.”

Test tonight

The Huskies will find out how they stack up against some of the best teams in the state tonight (Thursday) as they face two teams ranked in Class AA. The Huskies meet both No. 8 Adrian and No. 12 Wabasso/Red Rock Central in a triangular tonight.

“We’ll get a lot bigger test with two state ranked teams,” Baker said.
