BH: Eagles rally for win
By Dan Condon (January 06, 2010)
After taking a 2-0 lead into the second period, the Windom Area boys’ hockey team trailed 3-2 but rallied for four third-period goals in a 6-3 Southwest Conference win over the Worthington Trojans Monday night in Windom.
The Eagles took their first lead with less than five minutes remaining in the first period on a goal by Hunter Johnson and added to the lead when Justin Cook scored with 1:53 left in the period.
The Trojans got three of their five second-period shots past Eagle goalie Ethan Villeneuve to take the lead but the Eagles stormed back in the final period for the win.
Johnson scored his second goal of the night with 7:41 left in the game to tie the score at 3 and then assisted a goal by Jared Bargen to give the Eagles the lead for good just 1:09 later.
Nick Eisenmenger tacked on to the lead two minutes later, using assists from Johnson and Mitchell Baumhoefner to give the Eagles a 5-3 lead.
The dagger came when Adam Eisenmenger used an assist from Cook to give the Eagles a three-goal lead with less than four minutes to play.
Villeneuve had a relatively slow night, facing just 14 shots in the contest. The Eagles fired 49 shots at Trojan goalie Kyle Hain, including 19 during the third-quarter comeback.
Both teams had three power play chances, with the Eagles going scoreless and the Trojans taking advantage for their first goal of the night.
The win moves the Eagles to 5-5-1 on the season and 5-2 in the conference.
Windom 5, Waseca 5
The Eagles rallied to tie the game twice and wound up finishing tied with the Waseca Bluejays to wind up action in last week’s Waseca Christmas Tournament.
Waseca jumped out to a 3-0 first-period lead before the Eagles responded with the first three goals of the second period.
Waseca followed with two more goals, but again the Eagles had the answer, scoring the only two goals of the third period to force overtime.
Despite firing eight shots at Villeneuve, the Bluejays were held scoreless as the teams skated to a tie.
Adam Eisenmenger scored the first two goals for Windom as the Eagles fought back into the game early in the second period.
The first goal came just 27 seconds after the puck was dropped to start the period, with assists going to Bargen and Johnson.
Johnson and Nick Eisenmenger assisted Adam Eisenmenger’s second goal, which came just 3:58 into the period.
Johnson tied the game 2:05 later, scoring an unassisted goal to even things at 3.
The Bluejays scored the next two goals, including one with just 41 seconds left in the period, to take a 5-3 lead after two periods.
Cody Mischke drew the Eagles within one with a goal assisted by Baumhoefner and Nick Eisenmenger knotted the score at 5 with a goal assisted by Johnson.
Nick Eisenmenger’s goal came with just 2:08 on the clock, with neither team able to find the back of the net at the end of the period or in eight minutes of overtime action.
Villeneuve saved 45 shots for the Eagles, who sent 38 shots at Bluejay goalie Sean Farley.
Both teams had four power play chances, with the Eagles turning their second power play opportunity into their first goal.
Johnson heating up

The senior forward’s best game of the season came against Luverne on Dec. 17 when he had four goals and three assists. Johnson leads the Eagles in both goals (12) and assists (14).
Cook leads Jackson County Central students with five points, two coming on goals and three via assists. Kyle Luhmann has two goals and two assists.
