BH: Eagles win one of two
By Dan Condon (December 17, 2009)
Four goals in the third period was enough for the Morris-Benson Area Storm to edge the Windom Area boys’ hockey team last Saturday in Benson as the Eagles dropped to 3-3 on the season.
The loss followed a 7-1 win over Worthington last week, giving the Eagles a 2-1 record in the Southwest Conference.
Benson 4, Windom 3
The four goals in the final period allowed the Storm to erase a 1-0 deficit and come back to beat the Eagles.
Hunter Johnson used a Nick Eisenmenger assist to score a power play goal midway through the first period and the Eagles took that 1-0 lead into the early stages of the third period before the Storm tied the game and then took a 2-1 lead.
Cody Mischke scored 8:23 into the third period to tie the game at 2, with the assist going to Tyler Clark.
The Storm answered with two more goals for a 4-2 lead but Adam Eisenmenger kept the Eagles alive with a goal with 1:02 left in regulation. Clark picked up his second assist of the game on the goal.
The Eagles were unable to get the puck in the net, allowing the Storm to escape with the win.
MBA outshot the Eagles 32-29, with 11 of those 32 shots coming in the four-goal third period.
Ethan Villeneuve saved 28 of the MBA shots.
Windom Area was one-for-four on power plays, while the Storm was two-for-six.
Windom 7, Worthington 1
The Eagles broke a 1-1 tie by scoring the next six goals in a 7-1 thumping of Worthington last Thursday in Worthington.
Mitchell Baumhoefner scored a power play goal 3:20 into the game, with Adam Eisenmenger picking up the assist.
Neither team scored for the next 13:06 when Worthington knotted the game late in the opening period.
Baumhoefner put the Eagles back in the lead 1:43 into the second period and then he and Jared Bargen assisted an Adam Eisenmenger goal 1:23 later as the Eagles took a 3-1 lead.
Johnson used assists from Jared Heger and Carson Nyborg to score late in the middle period and the Eagles took that 4-1 lead into the third.
Cody Mischke, Adam Eisenmenger and Johnson all scored in the third period as the Eagles cruised to the win. Johnson and Nick Eisenmenger assisted Mischke’s goal, Justin Cook got the assist on Adam Eisenmenger’s power play goal and Nick Eisenmenger assisted Mischke’s goal.
The Eagles had a big advantage in shots on goal, sending 34 at Trojan goalie Kyle Hain. Worthington had just 19 shots at Villeneuve.
Windom Area took advantage of its power play chances, scoring on two-of-three tries.
