The fifth new teacher hired by Jackson County Central over the summer is the replacement for retiree Rosemary Rosenberg in the JCC High School English Department.

A Quad Cities, Iowa, native, newcomer Rafiel York brings more than a decade of teaching experience and a master’s degree to the job. He taught four years in Arizona and seven years in Colorado before pursuing graduate studies at St. Cloud State University, where he also instructed freshman composition courses.

“He was a hands-down phenomenal candidate,” said Superintendent Todd Meyer.

York was selected from among seven applicants.

Part of his return to the Midwest is following his parents, who are now living in Willmar, added high school principal Larry Traetow.
