Justin Cook scored a first-period goal to give the Windom Area boys’ hockey team the lead against Sleepy Eye Monday night and the Eagles never looked back, beating the Indians 3-1 to end a six game losing streak.

The Eagles are now 7-11-1 overall and 6-5 in the Southwest Conference.

Windom 3, Sleepy Eye 1

Cook used an assist from Mitchell Baumhoefner to put the Eagles up 1-0 with 4:35 left in the opening period.

Nick Eisenmenger extended the lead to 2-0 with a goal early in the second period, using assists from Cody Mischke and Hunter Johnson to light the lamp.

The Indians scored 1:16 later and the teams headed into the final period with the Eagles hanging on to a 2-1 lead.

Jared Heger gave Windom Area some breathing room with a goal 4:05 into the third period and the Eagle defense stayed steady, keeping the Indians out of the net in the final period.

Eisenmenger assisted Heger’s insurance goal.

Ethan Villeneuve made 19 saves for the Eagles, who also had 20 shots on goal.

The Eagle defense stepped up, holding the Indians scoreless on nine power play chances.

Windom Area was scoreless on its three power play tries, making them scoreless in their last 33 power plays.

Dodge County 7, Windom 3

The Eagle losing streak reached six games with a 7-3 loss to Dodge County Saturday afternoon.

Dodge County jumped out to a 2-0 lead after the first period and led 5-2 heading into the final period.

Baumhoefner scored to open the second period, using assists from Johnson and Adam Eisenmenger to cut the Wildcat lead to 2-1.

Dodge County responded with another goal before Adam Eisenmenger got the Eagles back in the game. Eisenmenger used assists from Johnson and Mischke to score with 5:34 left in the second period and trim the deficit back to a single goal.

After pulling back within a goal, the Eagles lost all momentum when the Wildcats scored two goals late in the period, including one with just three seconds left in the second period to take a 5-2 lead into the third.

Jared Bargen scored an unassisted goal midway through the third period to get the Eagles within two goals but the Wildcats tallied the final two goals of the game to pick up the win.

Windom Area managed just 15 shots on goal, compared to 28 for Dodge County. Villeneuve saved 21 of those 28 shots.

Dodge County made good on two of five power play chances while the Eagles were scoreless on all four of their power plays.

L-H/SP 3, Windom 2

The Eagles took a 1-0 lead but saw LeSueur-Henderson/St. Peter score three straight goals in a 3-2 loss last Thursday.

Nick Eisenmenger used an assist from Johnson to score 3:26 into the game but neither team scored the rest of the period.

The Bulldogs scored 36 seconds into the second period to tie the game but again, neither team scored after the initial early goal, sending the game into the final period knotted at 1.

The Bulldogs took their first lead of the game 4:58 into the third period and tacked on another goal less than four minutes later to lead 3-1.

Mischke scored on an assist from Tyler Clark with 4:31 to play but the Eagles were unable to tie the game despite two power plays late in the game.
