Corn chaff, permits taken up by board
Concern over the corn chaff issuing from the local grain elevator was among the issues taken up by the Lakefield Planning and Zoning board during its regular monthly meeting on Tuesday, along with several zoning permit approvals.
For the chaff, it was noted that past councils have already addressed the concern and city administrative clerk Kelly Rasche cited the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency’s stance that, “It’s a part of rural life.”
Utility sheds, a new home and home alterations made up the list of five zoning permits approved by the board. That brought to 32 the total number of permits approved in 2009. A total of 40 applications have been handed out during the first 11 months.
Permits approved this year fall into the following categories: Housing-related, 10, with three for new homes — one having been canceled; utility shed, eight; deck, five; garage-related, four, with three for new units; fence, three; and miscellaneous, two.
As for the filling of the board seat vacancy, board chair Ray Gamble stated that Lakefield Mayor Darrell Nissen has asked that the seat remain open for the remainder of 2009 with the intent that it be filled early in 2010.
