Okabena Fourth is day of fun
Okabena is the place to be for all-day Independence Day fun, starting with a classic car show at 10 a.m. and wrapping up with a grand fireworks display at 10 p.m.
The 2009 Okabena Community Fourth of July Celebration continues a longstanding tradition of Independence Day events and activities in the proud little community in northwest Jackson County.
The day kicks off at 10 a.m. with the classic car show. A kiddie pedal pull competition begins at 11, followed by the kiddie parade at 2:15 p.m. and the grand parade at 2:30.
As soon as the last float goes through, an old-fashioned ice cream social kicks off at St. John’s Park and runs until the cold treat is gone.
The American Legion clubhouse is the site of a patriotic program, set to begin at 4, and Main Street hosts the slowest tractor contest at 5.
A half-hour later, doors open for bingo at the Legion and the variety show in the school gym begins at 6:30.
“Kraft Variety” unfolds in the park at 7 that evening and a grand fireworks display caps the day sometime around 10 p.m.
An antique tractor display, beer garden and entertainment, raffle drawings, ball games, concessions, games for the whole family and kiddie rides take place throughout the day as well.
All are invited to Okabena’s July 4 celebration.
